Myrtle Beach World Amateur Championship Opens Registration

Dunes Club ImageEight Hundred and Twenty Six golfers have already signed up as the 2014 Myrtle Beach World Amateur Championship office opens registration to a virtual line out the door.  The great thing about the internet is that the door is as wide as it needs to be to let everyone in.  With a name change this year to better reflect the International and National marketing efforts of Golf Holiday to draw more attention to the Myrtle Beach area, the lack of title sponsorship will only help you the golfer, find information about the event.   According to Golf Holiday officials, financially the tournament is in even better shape than last year ensuring the quality of experience you are used to, or have heard of,  is matched and beaten again this year.

Participants arrive from all over the world and the United States to take part in the event and  play different courses along the Grand Strand depending on their flight, based on their gender and handicap.  These award winning courses and their staff welcome you to sample what the Golf Capital of the World has to offer.  Designers like Donald Ross, Reese Jones, Tom Fazio, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Davis Love III, Greg Norman and many others have signature courses here in the Myrtle Beach area.  With almost 90 courses to choose from, it is a bucket list item for many who have come to “play them all”.

Each night following golf, everyone is invited for dinner, cocktails and entertainment at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Convention Center TheGolfDirector.com was in attendance last year, the 30th anniversary of the event, for the first time and found it to be an experience only adequately described by the name – the World’s Biggest 19th hole.  In the simplest of terms – it is a great party.   With local food vendors providing plates of their best dishes hoping to entice you into their restaurants, to the liquor vendors offering their best tastes hoping to entice you to purchase their products, to all the big names in the vendor area with equipment and apparel to celebrities giving interviews and demonstrations on the big stage, it has something everyone can enjoy.

Dustin Johnson in Myrtle Beach Golf News

Dustin Johnson in Myrtle Beach Golf News

A trip to China reveals what an impact Dustin Johnson could have in Myrtle Beach Golf News.  As the spokesperson for Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday, he is certainly making a splash in a country where he won the WGC-HSBC Champions in November 2013.  The This week, the Grand Strand Golf Directors Association (GSGDA) held their March meeting, hosted on this occasion by the PGA Tour Superstore in North Myrtle Beach South Carolina where industry leaders welcomed Bill Golden, President of Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday.   About 50 Golf Professionals and Golf Package Providers listened as Mr. Golden made several announcements, the first of which was Golf Holiday’s new website.  When launched this website will focus on bringing attention to the golf courses individually and will incorporate a social media type review system.   This received a round of applause.

Mr. Golden’s next announced that there would not be a title sponsor for the World Amateur Handicap Championship this year.  He said that Golf Holiday would bring it in house but was quick to follow up saying that it was not because Golf Holiday’s couldn’t find a sponsor, but that it made more sense this way.  He added that sponsorship dollars for 2014 far exceeded last year’s already primarily due  to Chinese investment for the event.  Last year, the interest and participation from Chinese golf industry experts and players was a success, that he attributed it to a major real estate investment by a participant of the event.  Two recent real estate closings by Chinese investors have been Sea Trail Golf Resort and Colonial Charters.

bigbreaklogoMr. Golden went on to discuss a 9 day trip he will soon be taking to China with Myrtle Beach Mayor John Rhodes.  They will  be talking with Golf leaders and international golf travel companies in two distinct areas about attracting Chinese golf tourists to the Myrtle Beach area and all it has to offer.  Mr. Golden then said that on his last trip, he enjoyed seeing Dustin Johnson’s face “plastered all over China” representing Myrtle Beach golf.  There was even a video shot last week while he was in town which is being translated for upload on their social media sites.

Mam logoThe final announcement definitely excited the crowd.  The Golf Channel’s Big Break has selected a resort and course in Myrtle Beach for their show.  Big Break Myrtle Beach will be at Barefoot resort and the host hotel selected is the Marina Inn.  Two additional satellite courses, still to be determined, will also be selected as a filming and competition site.  This news is huge for the Myrtle Beach Golf Community and will bring major exposure as well as major economic impact for this entire area and industry.  This event, along with the Monday After the Masters event also at Barefoot Resort,  puts Myrtle Beach on the TV map for celebrity golf where the courses and amenities are sure to steal the show.  And if last year is any indication, Dustin Johnson will not only by in China talking Myrtle Beach Golf, but right here in the news as a participant in MAM.

Golfalyzer Gives to the Folds of Honor Foundation

Golfalyzer Gives to the Folds of Honor Foundation

Golfalyzer-LogoThe Golfalyzer golf gift breathalyzer now gives a donation to the Folds of Honor Foundation for all Golfalyzers ordered with the promo code “PATRIOT”.  Not only does this handy personal breathalyzer help you to play better golf by knowing your tipping point, but also keeps you safer by knowing your blood alcohol content (BAC) before you ever leave the course.  Combine this with a donation of $5 per unit going to the great organization the Folds of Honor Foundation and the price tag of $24.95 becomes an even better value.  It helps keep you safe AND helps those who have kept our freedoms safe by making the ultimate sacrifice.

Creators Brent Pauley and Chuck Stump came up with the idea of the Golfalyzer when one went on a 4 birdie tear and proclaimed, “I wish I knew by BAC”.  As social athletes have been known to enjoy a few adult beverages on the course or lanes, or during other social activities, they know there is a definite tipping point where that relaxed feeling moves them from keeping focused and relaxed to a bit too relaxed and their game suffers.  Brent and Chuck’s theory was that if we all could know what our tipping point is and could stay just this side of it, we would not only play better but ultimately enjoy ourselves more by scoring better and getting home safely.  Golfers seem to agree as these have become extremely popular and they even won the Best New Product at the 2013 ING Conference this year in Florida.

The Folds of Honor Foundation supports families of fallen soldiers and those disabled soldiers when they return with financial scholarships.  It all started with one man asking one course to donate $1 per round on Labor Day in 2007, it has grown to participation of over 4600 golf courses with multiple events not only in golf but in fishing and bowling as well, also other great social sports.  With the support of Major Ed Pulido and Major Dan Rooney (that one who started it all) telling the story of these heros and their families, The Folds of Honor Foundation has already given over 3800 post secondary scholarships and 250 children’s scholarships.  Their mission of no one left behind keeps them fighting day after day for all of our heros from today and the past.

Help support this great organization and improve your golf game at the same time.  Get your Golfalyzer by clicking here and using the promo code “PATRIOT”.   Say thank you just one more way to those who have sacrificed some and all for our freedoms.
